Hope it helps
as you may have noticed with kids when they imagine things they never seen before, random words said to them and they imagine what it could mean. the drawings are disoriented even to them with random circles or many details then they put a name to their scribbles or just randomly make it up as they go. when it’s things they’ve actually seen, you can see a better understandable form and less random lines and details. it sounds like someone who lies and it’s basically the same logic. humans can’t draw what they can’t see for themselves and have a harder time drawing from other’s experiences. so artists often ask clients in reference to other artworks or what’s the closest thing the client wants with subtitle differences here and there. whether you’re an artist or writer, you notice that their works look or compare their works to similar things. when you think a work is made from thin air, actually they either are inspired or come from someone’s dreams. for instance, xenomorph literally was made from ridley’s nightmares. it still means the artist saw and experienced it for themselves and base it on these experiences. it’s recommended that artists expose themselves to many things to inspire and expand their artistic skills, tv shows, travel, personalities, the world, etc.
